Another chapter of Dub and Illbient tracks from the Viking. With guests Marcia Seebaran on vocals, Mark Henderson on trumpet, Miles Li on sax and mastering done by Ernie Anches of Twilight Circus fame. The album was produced, conceptualized, performed, mixed and engineered by Robbin J Harris AKA 'The Viking'. The tracks are traditional and leftfield dubs with improvisation in both musical performance and in the mixing. Electronics and sequences are kept to a minimum in favour of REAL musicians and REAL musical performance. A return to harder hitting grooves since the MAYA album (also available on CDbaby ; )this record has a big bottom end and nice analog feel to most of it.Often compared to Bill Laswell or Twilight Cirus tracks, if you like dub music that is organic and somewhat adventurous give this one a listen. Spans from modern sounds to vintage Skatalite dubs featuring Mark Henderson and Miles Li on horns. Also on a few tracks here is the superb vocalist Marcia Seebaran (who incidentally also provided the cover photos). Ken Rose guests on one track playing guitar as does Joel Deerwester for one track on trumpet.Compared in many reviews to Twilight Circus and Bill Laswell these tracks are mostly on the mellow side of things.Big bottom and bass make it warm and cushy, especially on a dub sound system. MAYA is a project that started as one long ambient drum track, at which point the bass parts were added, and before too long everything just came together to make the journey complete. This record stays fairly mellow through out as it has more of a textural soundscape vibe. It has been recommended by many for Yoga classes, modern dance or interpretive dance classes. Everything on the record is live and was played in and processed, mixed, and engineered by Robbin J Harris (The Viking) with additional help from Marcia Seebaran providing vocals on a few tracks. The record has a very organic feel to it and follows a steady path from start to finish. One could use it for relaxing, meditation or one of the aforementioned uses. A departure from the more hard hitting groove based dub tracks produced by The Viking in the past, but none the less, the dub does live on in this album. Dub the Planet!
